👧🏽 Nat'l Galentines Day bugfixes

Happy Galentine's Day! I mean, I love a box of chocolates as much as the next guy, but today seems like a much better day to celebrate than that of ol' Saint Valentine, whoever he actually was. February 13th is also National Cheddar Day AND National Tortellini Day. Wowee! So, no matter your gender, I recommend getting together with your fave gal pal(s) and chowing down on some nice cheesy pasta tonight. And beyond pasta, pals and p'tit quebec - the word gal has a special meaning to me, which I'll share after these release notes for the curious among you.

Here's what we have released lately:

  1. Version note bugs: We had a few bugs that were all related to Version notes, and they were driving us bonkers. These took us an achingly long time to reproduce so we could figure out how to fix them:
    1. If an article had a selected version with a multiple line version note, the article editor wasn't working properly.
    2. The API version_note field was no longer being set or updated.
    3. Version notes were being wiped upon save when the Versions section in the editor was collapsed.
All of these issues are fixed now. Though we are a remote company and I was only reading Slack messages, I felt like I could hear the cries of joy from the team when we finally figured these out.
  2. Disappearing callout expirations: There was a problem where article callouts were sometimes saving without expiration dates - meaning they stayed indefinitely, unless manually removed. That's fixed now. To check if any of your articles had this issue:
    1. Go to Manage and Export the Manage Articles list to CSV.
    2. In the column selections for the export, under Options, check the boxes to include New or Updated Callout and Callout Expiration.
    3. Review that export for anything with a New or Updated Callout set to "new" or "updated" and an empty Callout Expiration. Edit any articles with the missing Callout Expiration to add an expiration date.
  3. Nested URL redirects in new tabs: If you had a category set to subcategory panels and inline article display, nested URL redirect categories that are set to open in a new tab were opening in the same tab. We've solved the problem, so they should be opening in new tabs if that's what you set :)
  4. Fix YAML uploads: The incorrect MIME type was being set for uploaded YAML files, which folks use for API docs (among other things). These files were displaying as application/octet-stream which is incorrect. They now display as application/YAML like they ought to.
  5. Changes to Search settings: We have released an experimental version of an AI-assisted semantic search to a handful of customers so they can test it out as we work more on it, before giving it a wider release. Already, though, folks should see a few changes in our regular keyword search:
    1. You can now choose which fields are indexed for autosuggest and full search, which gives you much more control over the search results.
    2. There are now more detailed fuzzy (i.e. typo tolerant) search settings. For example, you can set the fuzzy starting point and/or disable fuzzy search for full page search results.

That wraps up our bug release note.

In some get-to-know-your-Success-Owl-Erica bonus content, I thought I'd tell y'all about GAL, and what it means to me. Girls' Art League (GAL) was (is?*) a non-profit I founded 11 years ago in Toronto. We did a lot of great work, with so many amazing humans, empowering folks through visual art.

*it's on hiatus, but with plans of returning in late 2026.
