KB settings > Article editor controls some of the default behavior for the article and category editors. When you make changes to any of these settings, be sure to Save those changes.
Content editor
Use the Content editor settings in KB settings > Article editor to control some default behavior for all authors in your account. Options include:
- Turn spellcheck on by default: For Legacy Editor users only: This setting controls whether to use the Legacy Editor's built-in spellcheck functionality. (Modern Editor automatically uses the browser's spellcheck.)
- Automatically prompt to create a redirect link when changing the content's current permalink: With this setting turned on, any time you try to save an article after editing the permalink, the editor asks if you want to save the previous permalink as an Old Link automatically. (We love this feature!) Refer to Automatically redirect when you update an article's URL for more information.
Default article callout expiration
Use the Default article callout expiration setting in KB settings > Article editor to control the automatic expiration date duration when an author adds a New and Updated callouts. Authors can manually overwrite this default, but this setting determines what the date starts with.
Use the two dropdown controls to set your desired duration, from 1 day all the way up to 12 months.
Article review
Use the Article review settings in KB settings > Article editor to control whether to automatically set articles to a Needs Review status and, if so, how long to wait after the last edit to make that change. Options include:
- Automatically set articles to "Needs Review" if older than the below date: This setting will automatically change articles' publishing status from Published to Needs Review if they haven't been modified for the selected time interval.
- Articles in Needs Review status appear just like Published articles to your readers, but received a different status callout in the Articles display in-app and can be viewed in their own filter in Manage Articles.
- KnowledgeOwl runs a scheduled job each night to set these, so you'll see statuses update as a result of this roughly once a day.
- Use the two dropdown controls to set the time period you'd like to use, anywhere from 1 day to 12 years.
Automatically show these fields in the editor for all articles
Use the Automatically show these fields in the editor for all articles settings in KB settings > Article editor to control which of the optional fields at the top of the article editor to display for all authors automatically.
This is also set or edited when you select + Add field... > Edit default field settings in the article editor. Refer to Set which fields to automatically display at the top of the editor for more information on these settings.
Settings edited directly in article editor
There are a few settings you can also edit directly from within the article editor, including whether to expand or collapse certain sections and what your default save action should be. Refer to the Set article editor behavior documentation for instructions on finding and using those settings.
