Index large PDFs

The search index will automatically scrape and index the contents of PDFs in articles. We only index the content of PDFs under 100 pages long.

Setting is deprecated
We discontinued this setting for all new knowledge bases in 2024.

If you have an existing knowledge base that allows indexing PDFs longer than 100 pages, this setting displays in KB settings > Search and synonyms > General settings.

To stop indexing PDFs longer than 100 pages:

  1. Go to KB settings > Search and synonyms. The Search and synonyms page opens to the General settings tab.
  2. In the Reader controls section, under Index large PDFs, uncheck the box to Index the content of PDFs included in articles that are larger than 100 pages.
    Are you sure?
Once you turn it off and save, you won't see the option to turn it back on.
  3. Be sure to Save your changes.

This triggers a reindex to remove the larger PDFs.
