🍝 Nat'l Pasta Day bugfixes

Is anything as satisfying as a perfect plate of pasta? No. The answer to that question is no. However, I do believe sharing details on improvements we've recently made is a close second! So here are some recent changes we've made to KnowledgeOwl. Buon Appetito!

Basic Auth now tastier for web crawlers

We've added a new {root}/basic-login endpoint to improve compatibility with third-party crawlers and automation tools that use basic authentication. Many HTTP libraries require an initial 401 response with proper authentication headers before sending credentials, which our mixed authentication system previously couldn't provide. This new endpoint correctly handles the authentication handshake and redirects to the knowledge base homepage upon successful login, enabling smoother integration with crawlers and automated tools. The endpoint also functions as a convenient browser-based login page for testing basic auth credentials. This feature is only available when basic authentication is enabled in your knowledge base settings. We've updated our Basic authentication documentation to include information on the endpoint and how to use it.

Too many cooks in the Reporting kitchen

A customer reported a configuration error in one of their knowledge bases, in Reporting > Owl Analytics: Configuration error - please go to Settings to set up your website. This was a back-end issue on our side and should be fixed. Please let us know if you're seeing this error in your Owl Analytics!

Owl Intelligence was being overly greedy for permissions

Previously, if you'd enabled Owl Intelligence for meta descriptions and the Style Guide, but not for article creation, the meta description AI generation didn't work. When you tried to create a new meta description with Owl Intelligence, you'd get a warning that it had not been enabled. This has been fixed, so you can create meta description and use the AI with your Style Guide without having to also give permission to create articles with AI.

Default editors now have a seat at the Glossary table

After we released our lovely new Glossary editor UI, we discovered that folks with default Editor roles but not Admin privileges weren't able to make edits to the Glossary!

Additionally, when you did have permission to edit but you accessed Edit glossary from the knowledge base's live Glossary page, you'd go to an error page instead of the Glossary editing page.

We've fixed both of these glitches. From here, you should be able to add to and edit your Glossary without any trouble.
