View article editor with fewer distractions

Sometimes, you may want to cut out some of the noise from the article editor so you can focus entirely on the content you're editing or reviewing.

One small step toward this is to use the options to Expand or collapse article details in the editor, which helps you reclaim some of the vertical screen space above the editor control bar.

But if you're working on a small laptop screen especially, this still may not get you as much space as you'd like. Never fear! There are two more ways to focus on the content:

Collapse the editor righthand column

When we're editing content on a small laptop screen, one of the fastest ways to remove distractions is to collapse the righthand column so the main editor section takes up nearly the full screen. These settings are tied to your author account and won't impact the details other authors see, but the editor does "remember" which option you last used.

To collapse the editor righthand column:

  1. Open an article for editing.
  2. Hover over the righthand column.
  3. Select the right arrow (Collapse sidebar) control that appears near the top of the righthand column:
Select the Collapse sidebar arrow that appears when you hover over the righthand column
  4. The righthand column collapses.
  5. If you need to expand it again, hover over the righthand column and select the left arrow (Expand sidebar) control that appears in the same spot:
Select the Expand sidebar arrow that appears when you hover over the righthand column

View the editor full screen

If you don't want to do the number of clicks to expand or collapse both the details and/or the righthand column, you can also use the editor's Fullscreen control to make the editor itself switch to full screen view. This is the one-click fast way to really focus on your content.

To switch to editor fullscreen mode:

  1. Open an article for editing.
  2. Select the Fullscreen control (four corner squares icon) in the editor control toolbar:
Select the four corner squares/Fullscreen icon in the editor toolbarThe editor goes into fullscreen mode, which hides all KnowledgeOwl navigation. It's the most intense focus mode available in KnowledgeOwl.
  3. To exit Fullscreen mode, select the four reversed corners Fullscreen icon (the icon's in the same place, it just displays a different icon):
The editor returns to normal mode, displaying the full editor page.
